Laura Mclellan
SOPRANO
Laura is glad to have found community in Vox and is returning for her eighth season. Growing up in Boston, Laura was lucky to be raised under exceptional batons, performing with the Boston Symphony and Boston Pops Orchestras through her children’s choir, Voices Boston, as well as playing violin with the Greater Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra and the New England Conservatory Preparatory School. Laura has a B.A. in Environmental Studies from Brown University and is working on creating a sustainable water future for all Californians at the State Water Resources Control Board.

Jenna Hopper
SOPRANO
Jenna is delighted to rejoin Vox Musica for its 19th concert season, having been a member from 2011 through 2014. She grew up in Granite Bay, CA, where she was exposed to and encouraged to explore diverse genres of music. This led her to develop a deep curiosity and appreciation for songwriting, and in her spare time, she loves to produce her own music at home. Jenna has been singing and acting in choral and Musical Theater productions since she was a child and has been fortunate to perform on some of the country’s most sought-after stages. When not enjoying her work as a Vocal Instructor, Jenna can be found gigging with her classic rock cover band, cooking, or hanging out with her five-year-old son.

Valerie Simonson
SOPRANO
Valerie is excited to make a return to both musical performance and education after spending some time away to start a family. She has been the choir director at Elevation of the Holy Cross Orthodox Church for 12 years, where she continues to enjoy the challenges and rewards of directing an acapella choir within the unique Eastern Orthodox musical tradition. Valerie began her musical training in the vocal jazz world, singing with two Sacramento-area national award-winning ensembles: the American River College Vocal Jazz Ensemble and the CSUS Jazz Singers. She is enrolled in Sacramento State University, pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in vocal performance. Valerie previously sang with Vox Musica from 2009-2014 and is honored to be performing with them again.

Dina began choral singing in elementary school as a member of the Sacramento Children’s Chorus and has been a chorister in various groups ever since. She sang as a member of the American River College Vocal Jazz Ensemble before pursuing a bachelor's degree in classical vocal performance. Dina then went on to earn a master's degree in jazz studies at San Jose State University. Ema Gluckmann
ALTO
Ema is excited to be starting her tenth season singing with Vox! While completing her B.S. in Biological Sciences with a minor in Spanish, she sang with the University Chorus at UC Davis. Many years later she sang with the UCD alumni choir. Ema has sung with various local choirs and has even performed in some local musical theater. Her primary choral experience has been with the Congregation B’nai Israel Choir for the past 40+ years! Ema is fully in retirement mode now, after teaching high school chemistry for 35 years, but will be doing some substitute teaching this year. She exercises regularly, knits and crochets, plays MahJong, is learning Hebrew, and continues to love singing!
-
Anna Larsen
ALTO
Anna began singing as a child and insisted upon doing so regardless of the setting. Memorable early performances include the time she belted out A Chorus Line during her first dance recital while the rest of the toddlers focused on their dance moves. Anna spent her early years in Petaluma, CA singing in choirs, studying voice, dancing, and generally being a theater kid. She received her BM in vocal performance from UC Irvine and enjoyed singing in the chamber choir and performing her first few opera roles. Anna received her MM in vocal performance from California State University, Northridge, performing many more opera roles and studying with many excellent teachers and coaches. She lives in Sacramento with her three children, where she works helping small farms grow. Anna is thrilled to be joining Vox Musica!

Carol began playing and singing at local coffee shops and restaurants at age 19 and decided both music and music education would be her life pursuit. She received her bachelor's in music. ed. from the University of the Pacific and worked for Lodi Unified School District until retiring in 2020. She sang in a Renaissance quartet, “Woodes So Wylde,” and with a four-piece eclectic a cappella quartet, “Mochapella” (coffee shops being their main performance venue). She’s been a member of the Stockton Master Chorale since the previous millennium and the San Francisco Choral Artists 2010-2014. She also performs in local retirement homes with her husband, Bill.
